Et In Arcadia Ego

Operatic composition on works by Rameau. Libretto by Eric Reinhardt.

Recognizing oneself in the frozen images of childhood, apprehending the social kaleidoscope of the adult world, questioning the dizziness of old age. And embarking on this inner and sensory journey guided by the sensitive art of Jean-Philippe Rameau.

The season’s opening production is a ballet-opera of a new kind. Against the backdrop of Rameau’s most beautiful vocal, choral and choreographic pieces, served by fine interpreters of the Baroque repertoire (Les Talens Lyriques, Lea Desandre, Les Eléments), a new and contemporary dramaturgy depicts the human condition through the major stages of life.

Phia Ménard, Christophe Rousset and Eric Reinhardt composed and wrote a production whose poetic and visual power will renew our listening to Rameau. Following to the letter a remark from the composer – “It’s enough that one hears my music, words are nothing in an opera” – they rejuvenate these glorious pages.
